Diwali Puja : Traditional Diwali Pujan

Diwali is a grand festival of Hindus. It fall on the no moon day of the month in Hindu lunar calander. People celebrate this festival with high spirits. They light lamps decorate their houses and burst fire crackers. One thing that is the most essential part of Diwali is Diwali Pooja. Diwali pooja is performed in various manners in different families depending upon the regional customs and beliefs. For example, cattle are adorned and worshiped by farmers as they are the main source of their income. In south India people worship cows because they held that goddess Lakshmi would come in the form of cow. No matter what are the rituals performed during diwali pooja, they are performed with full devotion by every one. Generally People worship Lakshmi-The goddess of wealth on diwali. This Pooja is not like the daily Pooja, Its special one and so special arrangements are required for the Diwali Pooja.People prepare a special Pooja Thali which consists of a beautifully designed plate usually made of brass.

Puja Thali contains all the things like Roli, Moli, Chawal, kesar, Mithai, Diyas, Lakshmi Ganesh murti etc. Holy symbols like Swastika, Shree and Lakshmi Yantra are designed on it. All members of the family gather in the pooja room. The eldest member or the priest of the family performs all the rituals. New idols of the deities are established. After the purification of idols, a large Diwali Deepak and five ghee Diyas are placed in of deities to drive away the evil spirit. Essence sticks are also ignited People worship Goddess Lakshmi and the Lord Ganesha with complete devotion. The deities are offered sweets as Prasad. They also sing holy prayers i.e. Aarti. Sometimes the Aarti is played on the tape recorder etc. All members of a family sit together in the Diwali Pooja and pray to goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha to bless them and shower wealth and prosperity in their house.
