Diwali In India

Thinking of Diwali means thinking of celebrations. In a typical Hindu family, Diwali celebrations last for five days. These celebrations start two days before the actual Diwali day and end two days after it. The first day of celebration is known as DHAN TERAS. It is customary to buy new utensils on this day. It is thought to be auspicious and it is said that prosperity come home along with the new utensils brought on this day. The second day is known as NARAK CHAUDUS in Hindu Mythology. But commonly it is known as CHHOTI DIWALI. People light earthen lamps near drains of their houses and offer prayers so that they wouldn't go to hell after their death.
Then comes the Day of Diwali in India with lots of joy and happiness. On this day, people go for shopping. They buy dresses, gifts, idols of LAKSHMI and GANESHA, sweets and crackers. People decorate their houses with flower garlands, paper works, electrical lights, etc. Making Rangoli at the entrance of the house is a traditional part of Diwali celebration. On Diwali day, commonly images of Ganesha are selected as the central theme of the Rangoli. At the Diwali night, houses, shops, markets are lighted with electric bulbs .but the custom of lighting homes with rows of earthen lamps and candles is also maintained. People worship Lakshmi and Ganesha who would bless them with wealth and prosperity. Exchange of gifts and sweets is also an inseparable part of diwali celebration. But the actual diwali celebration means playing with fireworks. People bursts different sorts of crackers on diwali night. Along with the traditional diwali celebration, modern fun-loving generation like to see new released movies or going to disk with friends to celebrate Diwali.

The fourth day is celebrated as GOWERDHAN POOJA or VISHWAKARMA DAY. On this day, Workmen worship their tools and machines. The fifth and the last day is celebrated as BHIAYA DOOJ. On this day sisters pray for long life of their brothers. With this Diwali celebrations come to an end leaving people busy in their lives and waiting to rejoice themselves during Diwali celebrations next year.
